The design process for glass containers is summarized to ensure that the design work can be conducted in a systematic and scientifically reasonable manner. Each set of design schemes is accompanied by a design procedure. In summary, the steps for packaging container design are roughly as follows:
Glass Container Modeling Design Procedure
Conceptualization – Concept Design: Conceptualization involves transforming certain ideas into other items, also known as concept design. In the conceptualization of modeling design, it refers to the generation of new creative ideas and exploratory activities for container modeling. Before conceptualization, the following work needs to be done:
Market research and data collection: Conduct targeted investigations and data collection on modeling and information to gain a detailed understanding of relevant pharmaceuticals and similar products, facilitating design.
Product and enterprise analysis: Through thorough analysis, designers fully understand the requirements and related content of the packaging styling to carry out reasonable and appropriate packaging. Obtaining enterprise recognition before listing is the first step for commodity packaging to enter the market.
Design positioning: Design is positioned based on the quality, performance, usage, price, sales, and other aspects of the product, emphasizing the uniqueness of the product compared to similar products and the greater benefits it brings to consumers, highlighting the uniqueness and new value of the product.
Deepening Modeling Design:
Generation of design drafts and feasibility studies: Based on the systematic analysis and research of the above information, designers generate design drafts through conceptualization, formulating multiple design proposals, and ultimately developing the final satisfactory solution through comparison, induction, and development. This stage aims to address fundamental issues such as appearance modeling, basic dimensions, surface processing, materials, and color schemes, serving as a decisive step for comprehensive consideration of functionality, artistry, and economy. Opinions should be sought from commissioned designers, users, manufacturers, and relevant experts for evaluation.
Final design and sampling: This involves the finalization of the design and sampling process, serving as the basis for manufacturing and processing. After considering the reliability, durability, pleasantness, molding process, material selection, external cooperation, and storage and transportation of glass containers, the most ideal solution is determined based on evaluation feedback.
Glass Container Structural Design Procedure
Structural design considerations: Designers should consider the functionality, technical requirements, and simplicity of shape of the glass products, aiming to make the shape simple, lightweight, economical in material usage, easy and inexpensive in production process and mold manufacturing, and avoid defects such as cracks, breakages, excessive wall thickness, molding deformations, and glass adhering to mold walls due to the designer's neglect of production method characteristics. Detailed sketches of the product and its major components should be drawn.
Further enhancement of product design: Designers further refine the internal and external design of the product from an artistic perspective, i.e., further modeling design.
Reflection of conceptualization in detailed drawings: Structural designers reflect the conceptualization of designers in detailed drawings (structural designers should collaborate with glass craftsmen), preferably using CAD modeling technology to produce product drawings and three-dimensional models of glass products.
Model Production
Role of models: Models play a role in converting flat designs into three-dimensional ones to identify problems in flat modeling and make modifications and improvements; identifying deficiencies in flat modeling: Through solid models, many concave-convex and joint, three-dimensional penetration and line transition, dignified turning points, and color and texture effects in design can be checked; assisting in mold manufacturing and molding process analysis of glass containers.
